Townhead

Townhead is a residential and historic urban area situated on the northern edge of the city centre. Its neighbourhood character and strong community make it a vital part of Glasgow’s inner city fabric. However, the district has long been affected by major road infrastructure, which has created physical barriers and limited connectivity with other parts of the city.

The District Regeneration Framework aims to address these challenges by repairing the urban fabric and enhancing the local environment. Improving pedestrian connections, creating greener routes and redesigning key junctions are central priorities. These interventions support a more healthy, inclusive and people focused Townhead that can better integrate with the city centre to the south and educational institutions to the east.

Regeneration also seeks to enhance local amenities, support new forms of housing and improve public spaces that strengthen community life. By reconnecting fragmented areas, Townhead can grow into a more accessible and sustainable neighbourhood that supports long term wellbeing and contributes to the city centre’s ongoing transformation.
