The Garnethill and Sauchiehall District is a vibrant area of central Glasgow — a place to live, learn, work and enjoy a thriving evening and night-time economy. Sauchiehall Street has long been recognised as one of the city’s key entertainment destinations, home to venues, cafes, restaurants and cultural activity.
The district sits close to major green spaces such as Kelvingrove Park and Blythswood Square, providing valuable connections between the city centre and its surrounding neighbourhoods.
This area also contains one of Glasgow’s strongest clusters of arts, heritage and cultural institutions, set among a rich collection of historic buildings. As part of the city’s ongoing regeneration ambitions, the area is a core focus of the emerging Heritage and Culture Quarter project — an initiative designed to celebrate, protect and revitalise this unique cultural landscape.
In 2024, the project received a significant boost with a £4.3 million award from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, supporting regeneration, public‑realm improvements, and community‑led cultural activity. This investment strengthens efforts to enhance the historic environment, reinforce Glasgow’s cultural identity, and support long‑term regeneration throughout Garnethill and Sauchiehall Street.
